OUR VISION
In these times of financial constraint, it is becoming increasingly important for municipal governments and downtown BIA's to spend limited resources carefully and strategically. Our local firm, under its Principal, Juri E. Berzins has implemented many projects to assist small and medium sized communities and BIA's to take care of their downtown revitalization needs.
Our firm, Urban Design Consultants, has been established for over 43 years. In that time, the firm has become a recognized leader in undertaking urban design, revitalization, streetscape improvement and facade plans for communities all across the The GTA and Ontario, implementing over 175 Community Improvement Projects from Thunderbay in the north to Cornwall.
Our principal, Juri E. Berzins, B.L.A., M.L.A.U.D., Harvard University, is an urban designer, landscape architect and facade architect. He is one of Canada's foremost authorities on issues related to downtown revitalization in the BIA environment and small scale communities and he has helped beautify and improve many BIA's to realize their potential.
BIA PRIORITIES & NEEDS
In our 43 years of experience, we have learned that although many communities have undertaken physical improvements to enhance their core areas, many still do not have Plans and Strategies in 3 major areas, including;
URBAN DESIGN PLANS
Many downtowns require a comprehensive approach to improve their core areas and BIA's. An Urban Design Plan provides guidelines for streetscape improvements and street amenities.
BRANDING AND SIGNAGE PROGRAMS
A Branding Strategy will provide a guideline for branding the downtown or BIA and provide the guidelines for Wayfiinding and Gateway Signage to identify the marketplace.
FACADE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
This type of project is an excellent way to assist the town, BIA, and merchants to undertake facade improvements to their buildings and implement a facade improvements program to improve and beautify the private properties in the downtown.
